Introduction
This page will contain resources that may be helpful while building your project at NSH @ RPI 2027.
Participants are not required to use any specific programming language, framework, API, or development platform unless otherwise stated for a particular prize or challenge.
Additional resources, workshop materials, and partner tools may be added closer to the event.
Tools and Technologies
Participants are welcome to use any tools or technologies that help them build their project.
Some commonly used tools include:
- GitHub — Version control and project collaboration
- Figma — UI/UX design and prototyping
- Visual Studio Code — Code editor and development environment
- Replit — Browser-based development and collaboration
- Google Colab — Browser-based Python development
- Postman — API development and testing
- GitHub Pages, Vercel, or Netlify — Web application deployment
Teams may also use publicly available APIs, open-source libraries, frameworks, datasets, AI tools, and hardware platforms.
Inspiration
Not sure what to build? Start by thinking about something you do regularly that feels repetitive, inconvenient, inefficient, or unnecessarily complicated.
Ask yourself:
- What task do I wish could happen automatically?
- What process takes more time than it should?
- What problem do students encounter every day?
- What could make someone's work, school, or personal life easier?
- How could technology improve accessibility or remove barriers?
- What could help a club, nonprofit, small business, or community organization operate more efficiently?
Your project does not have to solve a massive problem. A simple idea that meaningfully improves an everyday experience can still make a great hackathon project.

Participants will have access to organizers and mentors throughout the event for questions related to projects, technical issues, submissions, and event logistics.
